MIAMI, FL - Indian River State College split a doubleheader on the road against Miami Dade College, falling in a tightly contested opener before bouncing back with a strong 7-1 win in game two.
In game one, The River came up just short in a pitcher's duel, dropping a 1-0 decision. The game remained scoreless through the early innings as both teams traded strong defensive plays and solid work in the circle. Indian River managed to create a few opportunities, collecting four hits on the day, but couldn't find the timely hit to break through. Despite having runners on base in multiple innings, The River stranded seven and were unable to capitalize.
Miami Dade ultimately pushed across the game's only run in the second inning and made it stand. The River's pitching staff kept things within reach all game, limiting damage and giving the offense chances late, but the equalizer never came.
Indian River responded in game two with a dominant 7-1 victory.
A single by Johnson put The River on the board in the top of the second inning. They added another run in the third when Loreto hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Eekhoff earned the win for The River, surrendering two hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, while striking out nine and walking one. Handa started in the circle for Miami Dade College, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, with two strikeouts and two walks.
The River tallied 12 hits in the game. Gendron, Johnson, Gibson, and Alvey each collected two hits. Gendron led Indian River with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 on the day.
