The River Sweeps Seminole State on the Road
SANFORD, FL - Indian River scored six runs in the third inning, which helped The River defeat Seminole State 11-2 on Friday. An error scored one run, another error scored two runs, Braylee Shields singled to score one run, and Brideson induced McKenzie Smith to hit into a fielder's choice, allowing two runs to score.
Indian River was first on the board in the first inning when Jaci Alvey singled, scoring two runs. A sacrifice fly by Shields extended The River lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning.
Seminole State scored two runs in the bottom of the second on a home run to center field by Harris.
Wilkinson earned the win for The River. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Rue took the loss for Seminole State. The starter went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out none and walking four.
Alvey went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Indian River in hits. Smith, Shields, and Alvey each drove in two runs for The River. Piar paced the team with three walks, while the team totaled five walks in the game one win.
Harris led Seminole State with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day despite the loss.
Indian River showed resilience and timely hitting in game two, rallying past Seminole State for a 4-3 win.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, The River settled in and chipped away. The turning point came in the middle innings when the offense came alive. In the fourth, Jaci Alvey sparked the momentum with a triple before Taylor Cochran drove her in to cut the deficit in half.
The River kept applying pressure in the fifth. Hezzy Seabrook got things started, and Anaise Piar delivered a clutch RBI triple to tie the game. Moments later, McKenzie Gibson brought Piar home to give Indian River its first lead of the night.
Alvey wasn't done. The sophomore put an exclamation point on her performance in the sixth inning, launching a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-2. She finished the day with two hits, including a triple and a home run, and scored twice.
In the circle, Emma Eekhoff battled through the early innings before Abril Gomez came in and shut the door. Gomez was dominant in relief, striking out five and holding Seminole State to just one run over the final frames to secure the win.
Despite Seminole State threatening late, Indian River's defense held strong, and Gomez closed it out in the seventh to lock down the 4-3 victory.
Indian River looks to continue its winning streak on the road against Eastern Florida on April 7.
