The River Sweeps Eastern Florida
FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River defeated Eastern Florida State College twice on Thursday, winning game one 5–4 and game two 8–0.
In game one, The River secured the win after taking the lead late. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when one run scored on a dropped third strike.
A single by Alvey put Indian River on the board in the bottom of the first. Indian River added another run in the second when Johnson singled down the right field line, making the score 2–0.
Eastern Florida answered with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the fourth, tying the game at two.
An error gave Eastern Florida State College the lead, 4–2, in the top of the sixth. Indian River responded in the bottom half of the inning, jumping back into the lead when an error scored two runs and another run scored on a dropped third strike.
Eekhoff earned the win for The River. The reliever allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out none and walking one. Wilkinson started the game for Indian River, allowing four hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings while striking out two and walking three. Mills began the game for Eastern Florida State College, surrendering seven hits and two runs over five innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
Piar and Alvey were a one-two punch in the lineup, each driving in two runs for Indian River. Piar and Seabrook each collected two hits, while Seabrook also stole two bases. As a team, The River totaled five stolen bases in the win.
Indian River continued its strong performance in game two, defeating Eastern Florida State College 8–0.
A passed ball put The River on the board in the bottom of the second. Indian River added three more runs in the bottom of the third on two hits. Alvey singled to score one run, and Terito homered to left field, bringing in two more.
Eekhoff earned the win for Indian River in game two as well, surrendering zero hits and zero runs over five innings while striking out four and walking one. Velazquez opened the game for Eastern Florida State College, giving up eight hits and eight runs (four earned) over three and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Piar led The River with two hits in three at-bats from the leadoff position. Shields and Terito each drove in two runs. Piar and Alvey each stole multiple bases as Indian River tallied seven stolen bases in the game.
