The River Battles Through Final Day of Paradise Cove Tournament

FORT MYERS, FL - Indian River split action on Saturday, earning a dominant shutout victory over St. Johns River State College before falling to Salt Lake Community College later in the day, finishing off the Paradise Cove Tournament.

The River opened the day with a commanding 5-0 win over St. Johns River State College as Eekhoff and Wilkinson combined to throw a shutout. Eekhoff led the way, working six strong innings while allowing just two hits and zero runs, striking out eight and walking two. Wilkinson was lights out in relief, pitching one inning of scoreless ball while surrendering zero hits, striking out two, and walking none.

The River got on the board in the top of the third inning after Piar grounded out, Alvey hit a sacrifice fly, and Gendron singled to center field, each driving in a run. Shields and Alvey each collected two hits to pace the offense. Piar, Gendron, Gibson, Alvey, and Terito each drove in one run.

In Game 2, The River fell 3-1 to Salt Lake Community College despite out-hitting them six to three. Alvey led the way offensively with two hits, while also driving in The River's lone run. The first baseman finished 2-for-4 on the day. The River showed strong discipline at the plate, drawing five walks in the contest.

Wilkinson started in the circle, allowing three hits and three runs over six innings while striking out one and walking one. Eekhoff came on in relief and delivered a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. Pitching was strong on both sides, as Salt Lake pitchers struck out eight hitters.

The River finished the Paradise Cove Tournament with a 3-1 record and now looks ahead to the Courtney Miller Invitational in Orlando next weekend before opening conference play. The team added another strong performance during tournament play, highlighted by patience at the plate and aggressive base running. Shields and Smith each drove in two runs, while Shields also drew two walks. Overall, The River accumulated six walks and swiped three stolen bases, showcasing both discipline and smart decisions on the base paths.

The River now turns its focus to the remainder of the season after a successful showing in tournament play.
