The River Shows Grit but Falls Short Against South Georgia State

WAYCROSS, GA- Indian River State College men's basketball fought hard but ultimately fell to South Georgia State College in an 86-74 loss in a tough, fast-paced game.

It was a close contest throughout the first half, as Indian River kept things tight and went into the locker room just three points behind, 36-33. The River showcased strong defensive pressure early on and executed some solid offensive sets. However, missed opportunities and turnovers allowed South Georgia to hold onto a slim lead.

Coming out of halftime, South Georgia's offensive surge put The River on their heels. The Hawks found their rhythm, and despite a few spirited runs by Indian River, The River struggled to string together consistent stops or score efficiently. South Georgia's defense stifled Indian River's offense, particularly in transition, where the Hawks capitalized on fast breaks and easy buckets.

While The River fell short, there were bright spots—most notably the team's resilience and their effort to keep the game close despite the Hawks's dominant second half. The River will take valuable lessons from this game, focusing on limiting turnovers and tightening up their defense as they head into future matchups.

Player Highlights:

Indian River will look to bounce back quickly as they take on Albany Tech tomorrow at 2 PM.
