Bradenton, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team had difficulty finding their shooting range on the road Tuesday as they were defeated by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, 84-80. The Pioneers shot 39% total field goal percentage and only 25% from behind the three-point line.
Manatee-Sarasota raced out early to a 9-2 lead and pushed the gap to 21 points as they cruised into the half ahead 46-25. IRSC continued to fight and narrowed the margin to 10, 57-47 on a Jai Clark three-point shot with 11:27 remaining in the contest. With nine minutes to go, A.J. Casjuste diced down the lane and scored a nifty lay-up to cut the lead to 7, 61-54. Linton Brown got loose under the basket and converted the power-up, making the score 63-60 with 6:38 on the clock. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Pioneers could get.
Miles Coleman led IRSC in scoring with 17 points, followed by DeJuan Lockett 13, Linton Brown 12, and Drew LaMont added 11. Coleman and Antrell Charlton did their part in the rebounding category by pulling in a combined 19 rebounds. The Pioneers will travel to Ocala Florida this weekend to take part in the Central Florida Thanksgiving Classic. They will match up against the home team, College of Central Florida on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday will take on Chipola College at 2 p.m.
