River Drops One on the Road
DAYTONA, FL - The River couldn't keep up with Daytona State and fell 15-6 on Thursday. The River will finish the series at home Saturday.
The River got on the board in the first inning after Cam Baker homered to left field, scoring three runs. Vinciguerra homered to center field, which helped Daytona State tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.
The River took the lead in the top of the fourth. Pina hit a solo home run to right field to give the River the advantage, 4-3.
Daytona State flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Duque that drove in two.
Daytona State scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gonzalez singled, scoring one run; Donatucci singled, scoring one run; Waddingham grounded out, scoring one run; and Vinciguerra doubled, scoring two runs.
Jonathan Wolaver took the loss for the River. The right-handed pitcher went one inning, giving up four runs on three hits, striking out two and walking two. Javi Miranda stepped on the bump first for the River. The starter surrendered four hits and six runs over three innings, striking out three and walking six. Pantoja led things off on the hill for Daytona State. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one and walking two.
The River piled up nine hits in the game. Andy Schroeder, Cam Baker, and David Pina each collected two hits for the River. Baker and Pina each drove in three runs for the River. The River was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Dinzeo made the most plays with eight.
Indian River drops to 16-19-1 overall. They will look to bounce back Saturday.
